Yulia Brodskaya joins the project

Craft-based creativity is so prominent in the design industry at the moment, bringing handmade richness to all kinds of projects. One illustrator using her craft skills to magnificent effect is Yulia Brodskaya. Some of her finest work uses a technique called quilling, whereby strips of paper are curled around a quill (or pen or pencil), and then the resulting loopy shapes are stuck onto a board, standing on edge. Using a variety of colours, she uses the quilled strips to construct imagery and type. The effect has a unique, 3D tactile charm to it and Yulia has created some stunning pieces for clients like The Guardian, Cadbury and Nokia. She also draws and uses other paper and cardboard construction techniques in her work. We’re pleased to announce today that Yulia has agreed to create an image for the Memories book, and she’ll be making one to go with The Meteor, written by Frank Joussen about the schoolgirl Ramona Horn who sadly died from a brain tumour.

Yulia’s inclusion on the project brings the number of creative people already commissioned to an incredible 112. And we’re still going strong! Please check out her online portfolio here.
