The latest artist to join in on the Memories project does so from all the way over in Lviv, a city in the Ukraine. Irena Zablotska has an unusual style that she describes as ‘elegant horror’, however many find there’s beauty and charm in her colourful, abstract images. The image you see above was used by a Japanese credit card company which gave their customers the chance to choose which image they get on their plastic. When I was giving a talk on contemporary illustration in Toronto last year and I showed this image to the design students there, one of them immediately said, “I’d want that on my credit card!” For us it’s great news that Irena can join the project. She will be creating an illustration for the new story, just completed, by Gordon Kirk about his fight against testicular cancer. Please have a look at Irena’s work here.
