    Rob Ryan’s in. Ace!

    RobRyanwindytree

When we went up to the Maggies Cancer Care Centre in Hammersmith to discuss donating the money we make from Memories to their charity, I noticed they were selling a card with an image on the front created by the illustrator Rob Ryan. We all thought it was a great idea to ask him to participate in Memories by creating an image for the book. But Rob is in the upper echelons of the illustration and design scene. His studio is very busy. Could we pull it off?

Well, folks, the dream has become a reality. Rob has accepted our brief and will be creating an image for The Fox Cubs, a story about leukemia survivor survivor Sarah Yates. He also sent over some encouraging words about the project, saying that working for Maggies is a great thing to be doing. We welcome Rob aboard and thank him for taking the time to do this. His work is some of the finest papercraft-based illustration going – he cuts out silhouette scenes, complete with texturing and letter work, from sheets of coloured paper. Intricate, unique and totally authentic are all words that spring to mind, as you can see by the example above, so check it out here.

    Tatiana Arocha is on board

    Tatianaweb

The momentum continues as we have signed up Tatiana Arocha to create an image for Memories. Tatiana does all kinds of work from motion graphics to graphic design and illustration. Anyone who saw her Rainforest Sanctuaries illustrations last year will know how incredible her representations of nature can be. The above sample image she sent us is stunning too. She’s from Colombia, but today lives in New York.

There was a bit of a mix-up when I emailed Tatiana and she thought we wanted her to do 12 images. Of course, she’s only going to do one but she’s so commited to our project that she said she didn’t mind doing 12 if we needed them. That’s really touching. She told me she feels a connection to our project as her mother-in-law died of cancer not that long ago. Our thoughts go out to her husband and family.

We’re grateful to have another talented illustrator on board and strongly recommend you visit her website here.

    Linn Olofsdotter WIP

    LinnWIPweb

Another exciting week for us. For a start, today we are able to announce that Linn Olofsdotter is busy creating an image for Memories. In fact, she’s well on her way to completing it already and what you can see above is a work in progress. Linn’s image is a response to the story The Meteor, the very touching piece about how a young German girl lost her struggle with cancer.

Linn is a fantastic illustrator and I’ve always loved the texture and atmosphere she manages to get into her images. Back when I was on Computer Arts I really enjoyed briefing her for one of the magazine’s Inspiration Workshop articles and gave here the difficult job of creating an image all about the petroleum crisis. I guess there must have been a petroleum crisis going on at the time. Check out more of here work here. Isn’t it amazing?
